Sometimes I see my coworkers push the limits of our dress code in ther desire to get cubicle cute. I’ve seen skirts and dresses too short, heels too high, and inappropriate tops. On one casual Friday, I’ve even seen a coworker wear sweatpants.
Or the equally as bad other end of the spectrum, when people just dress like a granny, in an effort to look conservative. Just bad! Although I am a grandmother, there’s no granny dressing here!
Here’s how I got cubicle cute. To add some flavor I went with these “everything” pink pants from Ashley Stewart. When I say everything, I mean they are every- thang! They wear like slacks, and are comfortable like leggings! The blush color is great for spring, yet they are warm enough to hold up to the Artic Blast tempeture of my office! Instead of a regular cami, I went with this white faux leather cut out cami from Lane Bryant. My classic black blazer from Lane Bryant, nude heels from Nine West, and white faux pearls from Walmart anchor the look.
This blazer is one on of my favorite items in my wardrobe right now. Its just the right touch to keep my jeans office appropriate on casual Friday, and it still looks great with slacks, or over a skirt or dress. Now keep it cubicle cute, but stay out of HR lol!
As we left 2016, I couldn’t help but notice all of the references, posts, and comments on how bad the year was for a lot of people. I even saw some uber talented individuals made an actual horror movie trailer of all the headlines. It was hilarious! However this only further proves my point that so many people are feeling dispaire. To use the words of our current FLOTUS ” We are feeling what not having hope feels like” . But please let me encourage you don’t get “Trumped Up”. There is always hope. As long as we are here among the living, it is our duty to make everyday the best day, and be grateful for the opportunity to do so.
I’m not saying we won’t have bad days. I’m just saying don’t stay in the dark places too long! As for me, I am claiming 2017 the year I live with purpose. I believe in my magic! Are you with me?
Here are five ways you can speak life into your new year!
A post shared by Mrsphatandnaptural (@mrsphatandnaptural) on
You become what you say about yourself. So keep it positive. This is something we’ve all heard all our lives. You know, if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say it at all. Even in scripture ” For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of”. So fill your heart with good words. Sometimes I print my favorite quotes and hang them in places where I can see them when I need encouragement. I have them in my car, around my house, and oh boy do I have them around my office at work. Lol that’s a whole other story 😁. I also keep my vision board posted by my mirror and it is my screen saver on my phone. It reminds me to keep the good vibes.
2. Hold Your Thoughts Captive
Be intentional with your thoughts. I’ll be the first one to say, this is hard! But it’s so necessary. You can’t let the negative talk begin. When you feel the negatity taking over, redirect your thoughts. If you like music, this is a perfect time to create a playlist. Play those songs when you know you need a pick me up. If you have a favorite motivational speaker or podcast hit play and get it into your head. Again the quotes, and words of affirmation come in handy here as well. I once had a difficult coworker that I had to deal with everyday. Someone gave me a workplace prayer, which I hung on the wall right behind my monitor, so I read it all day everyday. It helped me to be mindful of my reactions to her aggressive behavior. Without my reaction she had no fuel. Eventually she stopped her behavior with me and moved on to another coworker which got her fired.
3. Surround Yourself With Good People
Even if the people around you don’t understand what you are trying to do, as long as the don’t try to project their fears on you, they are good people. Sometimes people are so use to being negative, and gossiping, and talking bad about people that they don’t see anything wrong with it. Stay away from this! My dad use to say, if you bring a bone you’ll carry a bone. In other words the same person who’s talking negatively with you will do the same about you.

Like Beyoncé said,” I’m feeling myself ” sometimes you just have to feel you own self! BT dubs have you seen Insecure AF on HBO,? I love the way Issa raps to herself in the mirror! Lol I’m not saying you have to break out your rhyme book, but you can stand in the mirror and tell yourself how beautiful, smart, and wonderful you are. I saw an old clip of Jay Z on Hot 97, saying how his uncle told him he’d never sell a million records, and he didn’t believe him. He knew he’d sell a million records and that’s all that mattered.
5. Do Your Best
This one doesn’t take much explaining.Go the extra mile! Work at your best, and you’ll yeild the best results.
Well it’s here! The Fall season is upon us. You get to sport the boots, sweaters, and jackets we all love! Although I’ll definitely be pulling out some of last season’s wears,I always added a few pieces from the new trends to freshen up my wardrobe. This year I’m going with some of Pantone’s hottest colors to keep me up to date.
Every year Pantone Institute delivers its report with the names and code numbers of the hottest colors for each season. This Fall the colors were lead by the Blue Color Family. Here’s their official statement:
The desire for tranquility, strength, and optimism have inspired a Fall 2016 color palette that is led by the Blue family.

Breaking All The Rules Yacht Party : Full FIGURED FASHION WEEK CURVES AT SEA ALL WHITE YACHT PARTY
Yes you heard it right! Hundreds of full figured beauties wearing all white dancing, singing and partying without a care! I must admit although I had a great time, and the food was excellent. I was doing a lot more watching than participating. I can’t help it I’m a people watcher. So, as I watched and admired how great everyone looked, I also realized that everyone was expressing their fashion their way! It was awesome!
Breaking rules and looking fabulous!
Rule #1 CURVY GIRLS SHOULD NOT WEAR WHITE
Rule # 2 CURVY GIRLS SHOULD WEAR LONG SHIRT – NO CROP TOPS
Rule # 3 CURVY GIRLS SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM LACE AND SHEER CLOTHING
Rule #4 CURVY GIRLS SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM FORM FITTING CLOTHING
Rule # 5 CURVY GIRLS SHOULD CAN NOT BE PAGENT QUEENS
I guess nobody told them about us!
Soooo just because they are my favorite looks of the night!
This is my favorite moment of the night! I got to meet my #haircrush Nakitende Esther!
So it’s April, summer is around the corner and I fell off the fitness train! And when I say off I meant all the way off. I got to a place where I wasn’t doing much about my health and believe me before I stepped on the scale my jeans told me! But as I said in my last fitness post👉( Fight Of A Fit Phatty)
“When you fall off don’t stay off!”
I’ve gained 10lbs back and I’ve been eating pretty crappy. I let life get in the way, nope scratch that; I got in my own way.
“Lack of time is actually a lack of priorities”
No excuses, time to get back to health! Knowing is only half the battle, now it time to get back into the fight with this fat!
Here are my chosen weapons of war :
Liquid Gold! A gallon of water a day! Yikes that’s a lot of water! But water is the key to good health! I try to just drink 6 bottles of water so I’m not looking at a gallon all day! If you don’t like plain water add fruit for a good taste and detox!
Hand to Mouth! I mean snacks! Not the fudgy gooey kind, something good and healthy but filling! I love nature valley bars or flavored rice cake minis, fruit, and nuts. Eat something that is filling between meals and make sure it’s not empty calories!
Beat the clock! It’s no secret that most people don’t exercise because of time, but you have to do it. I wish I could go to the gym and rock out for an hour but my life doesn’t work that way! But you can do 20 minute work outs 3 times a day. That will burn the same amount of calories as a continuous hour. I like high intensity workouts that you can do in 20 minutes and burn the same amount of calories or more! Walk at lunch a few days a week, or six 15 minutes bursts if you have to. whatever works for you, do it!
Click fitness! I like to explore Pinterest and YouTube for new exercises. Remember to do the correct forms though! 10 correct moves goes a lot further than 50 incorrect. Last year I could only do ONE push up! I kept trying and now I’m at 10. It’s your heart rate pumping that will be the benefit!
Eyes to see! In every aspect of life we need someone to look to and something to aspire towards. Whether it’s a family member, friend, or favorite social media celebrity, let someone else’s journey inspire you.
Don’t wait until you feel like it! Honestly we will never feel like it most of the time lol! Sometimes I feel like today will be my rest day just like yesterday and I never get anything done.
Reap Wisely! I always say this! Don’t reward yourself with food or punish your self with brutal exercise! Instead reach a goal and purchase something else besides food! If you’ve fallen from fit grace do not over work yourself! Start off slowly and ease your way back in.
I hope you continue to take this journey with me! If you have more tips please leave them in the comments! What are you doing? Share with us on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest!
So, this post started out as a list of some of my favorite places to shop. Then as I was literally writing out a draft of that post, I received two emails that changed my direction. One was from someone who wanted to know where I shop at, and the other was from someone who said they were going on vacation and wanted to know what I think they should take.
That got me reminiscing about the days, when I would go into the store, and look for my size and buy it. No matter if I liked it or not. It was my size ( size 20) and fit reasonably well (actually too big), so it came home with me. How pathetic was I?
I know this is the plight of so many plus size women! I hear it all the time. Especially young plus size women. It’s as if there’s no in between, there’s overly sexual ( a whole other post right here) and then there’s frumpy! Well later for all that!
Fast forward to today, ( size 22-24) I love shopping straight size trends and look for classic pieces to keep my wardrobe ever fresh!
Now, I can do outfit of the day posts all day long, and I still get the same question. Where did I get this or that? I want to make this as easy as possible. Below I’ve highlighted some of my favorite straight size 2016 Spring Trends, and listed the stores where you can pick them up.
Cold Shoulder: This is definitely a more feminine trend that looks great on plus sized women. The bare shoulders draws the eye up to your beauty.
Florals: You’ll see this one in small and large prints, appliques, and even combined with other trends. After all Spring Showers Bring May Flowers!
Ruffles: So, I’ve seen some articles describe this trend as “Spanish” however, be careful where you choose to display the ruffles they could add unwanted volume if the are sitting on the wrong curve!
Lace: Most recently, Beyoncé strutted a white lace number at the White House Easter Egg Roll. Yes just like that, all the lace pencil skirts went up! Lol. You see lace on skirts, dresses, shirts as the main fabric or as accents.
Stripes: Yeah, so that ” Big Girls Can’t Wear Stripes” not today! We are blurring the lines and rocking vertical, horizontal, and even diagonal stripes!
Romance: This one has the potential to be dangerous! It’s uber sexy and sometimes called “Daytime Lingerie”. I think you get the picture. Satin, sheers, laces, nets, but it can all be done in good taste. So let’s keep the raunchy out of romance ok.
Denim: This is one of those ever fresh categories. Like when was jeans ever not a trend?
Tulle: Yup, it’s still in! Yay! I love tulle skirts, you can dress them up with heels and a nice blouse, or down with Jean shirts. They go with sandals, sneakers,t-shirts and they fit great on everybody’s body. You can’t mess the look up!
Where I shop in store or online:
Fashion To Figure- mostly online but there are stores in Jersey. The clothes fit true to size and they always have sales.
Tip: Sign up for the email lists, I shop when they have discounts via email.
Burlington- In store, I have one close to my house and one close to my job. So, I’m always checking the racks.
Tip: If you like it, get it right then, because chances are it’ll be gone quick.
Eloquii- Only online. The clothes are a great quality for the price! These pieces last through washing and wearing and they are very fashion forward.
Tip: Same as above, I shop when they have deals and coupons via email.
Asos Curve- Online Only, again the clothes are great quality the sizes are true to size.
Tip: Make sure you by US sizes they not UK sizes. I know a few people that made this mistake.
Torrid- Both instore and online. They absolutely have the best fitting jeans! They always have sales and they have the loyalty rewards for being an insider.
Tip: Use your insider points, and buy ” staple” pieces, because the prices are not cheap.
Ashley Stewart- For years this was the only place I shopped but as of late ehh! It’s still a great resource, but things have changed.
Rebdolls- Online only, I love them but you have to get the extended sizes fast because they sell out quickly! A lot of these pieces are a little young for me. But they are great for the plus sized millennial woman.
Lane Bryant- In store just because it’s close to my house. Sometimes the prices take me down though! I try not to shop in a rush, but if there is ever a last minute need, I go there.
Full Beauty.com- Online only,You can usually find any and everything on this site! That’s their whole niche. Wide shoes, classic trends and the new in thing ” Swimsuits For All”; you name it they have it!
Do you have a favorite store? Drop it in the comments below!
With the coming of every new year, we make resolutions, declarations, commitments or what ever you want to call them. Very often we don’t even keep them for one week. The biggest reason is because we have these unrealistic unnatural goals, but we are not committing to the process. So Naturally we FAIL!
What if we were to take a more natural approach to these goals? Here’s what I mean. If you have made a goal to exercise every morning, but yet you have trouble getting up in the morning, more than likely you will not accomplish this goal easily. However if you tend to stay up later, or you religiously watch your favorite TV program, why not make a goal to work out during the commercials, or before you go to bed? This is more natural to you.
Likewise if you have a financial goal, but you are an impulse spender, plan your trip to the store, and only take enough cash to buy what’s in the plan. Need I say leave your card at home!
The standard saying is “it takes 21 times to make a habit”
but it also takes 21 times to change a behavior. If you have a particular habit that you want to stop, why not replace that motion with a similar motion just a better one. I remember when my Father was trying to stop smoking after 35 years and up to 2 1/2 packs a day. He found that putting a piece of gum in his mouth was the same motion and filled the urge. Surprisingly after about 15 days the urge to have a cigarette went away. The natural pattern was still the same, he just changed the product.
For me, one of my personal goals is to grind as hard for my own dreams as I do for others. I am naturally a pleaser. This one isn’t as easy, but I’m learning to see my success as an inspiration to please others with the information I give. Thereby serving my cause as well as my natural desire to help others.
So, as the new year comes in and you begin to make plans for living a better life, keep your natural tendencies in perspective. Use them to your advantage.
So as we leave 2015 and you start to evaluate your year and make plans for your future remember to just act natural.
Here we are Christmas is just a few days away! I’m sure you’ve done all your shopping and finished up like a boss, right? But wait you missed your favorite curly girl, what now? It’s LITERALLY LAST MINUTE! No worries, I gotcha! Here’s my top LITERALLY LAST MINUTE gifts for the naturals in your life:
I know you’re probably like really, a comb? But as a natural we appreciate the value of a good comb. We also lose and damage them more often then you think so this is an awesome gift. There are even decorative comb sets to make the gift even more special 😉
The beauty of being natural is all about hair acceptance. So help her crown her glory with a new hair accessory. Every kinky curly girl needs a goddess band, you can find these at your local beauty supply place or even Walmart.
A silk scarf can make or break your healthy hair, literally! Every girl absolutely loves scarves, wraps and bonnets especially big ones. Printed turbans have been making a huge statement these past few years. I bet she will more than appreciate it!
Being a kinky girl is very costly. We try very hard to stretch our products! If you’re not a naturalista you probably don’t understand the value of this gift. But any natural girl may just jump up and kiss you if you purchase her favorite product and/or shampoo!
This is a little more personal then a commercially available product. Your curly will understand the time and energy you put into making her an oil or hair butter! Maybe even some aloe or flax seed gel! Follow us on Pinterest to check out some DIY’s!
Christmas is basically here, but it’s never too late to grab some last minute treasures! The great thing is, all of these are accessible to at your local drug store right down to Christmas Day! Now if you are the curly girl and you want to let your givers know what you want, send them this link lol! Don’t forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest! Leave us a comment if you have even more last minute ideas!!!
I’m sure it’s no secret that being a stylish plus sized woman is not cheap. It seems that paying more just goes with the territory. It’s even worse for me because I shop with my ears. If you can imagine I’m just walking through a particular store and I start hearing things speaking to me. “Psst hey over here” ” take me home with you”. Sometimes trying it on will help me make the decision to buy or not to buy, and other times it’s so right for me that I just have to get it. I usually set a limit per piece of what I will spend. Such as I don’t want to spend $39.00 for a t-shirt! Yeah that’s just crazy-town!
Now, when that piece that’s calling out to me has a markdown price, there’s almost nothing that’s going to keep me from owning it! That’s what happened with this Glam Rock look. The entire look was only $25 at Burlington Coat Factory! The vest and the top are size 2x and the bottoms are 3x. This particular store has a decent plus size section. I shop both Women’s and Junior’s. The fur vest was the most expensive (if I can even use that word) it was $14.99. I love these faux leather leggings ( yes I wear leggings, and I look great in them) they were a steal at $4.99 and the top was $5.99. That’s like getting a whole outfit for the price of my favorite jeans at 50% off. **tilts head and winks eye**. Well, what can I say, somethings are just worth the price.
Fashion can be frugal, and even plus sized fashion can be affordable and stylish. Now one word of caution when you find these low low prices you have to try them on. Very often there could be some fit issues. I always make sure the bottom of my shirts hits around the middle of my hips. That way it’s probably low enough in the back to cover some booty, and long enough in the front to cover my lower belly. The waist on bottoms is always my concern, sometimes it’s cut small but the legs fit great. That’s what works for me, but if you feel great in it, by all means get your Glam Rock on.

Our Four Favorite Drugstore Shampoos To Keep Your Natural Hair Clean And Moisturized
We’ve all had that moment when we realize the Mane [Man] In The Mirror makes you want to Beat It. You know that feeling when you scratch your hair and look under your nails and you see Another Part of [ Me] You. Maybe it is the realization that the miracle product that’s suppose to make your hair feel like butter is actually just Bad! It happens to every natural at some point on this natural hair journey. Being able to run out and pick up the right shampoo is a key to getting through wash day like a Smooth Criminal. Lol ok this is my tribute to the King Of Pop! MJ himself. #virgoseason. By the way my all time favorite song from him is you guessed it, Dirty Diana.
Okay enough about Michael Jackson here are our four favorite shampoos that will have you singing I Just Can’t Stop Loving You to your tresses 😜!
1. Carol’s Daughter Mirabella Plum Sulfate Free Biotin Shampoo- This shampoo is a nice thick consistently. It a thick syrupy liquid, that lathers well and gently cleans your hair. Although the label says its for fine, weak, and very dry hair, it works great for my thick, strong, and very dry hair. It’s full of natural ingredients, and smells great. This is one of my Holly Grail products. If I had to point out a negative it would be the price, it’s not extremely high but it’s also not cheap. This product costs about $11 per bottle, but If you sign up for the email list you’ll get regular emails for discounts from 20-40% off. I usually get more than 1 bottle at a time so it’s well worth the email frequency.
2. Cantu Shea Butter Sulfate Free Cream Shampoo- As said in the title this shampoo is creamy and thick. It’s very moisturizing and can feel it as you apply it to your hair. Froesha just drinks this stuff up. The label states that this product is mild enough for color treated hair. All that said to me is the thing that keeps this product on the top of the list is the price. It sells for $5-9 depending on where you buy it. There may be other products that offer the same result, but I think you’d be hard pressed to find one that could compete with the price point. The only negative I can say about this one is the scent is a little nutty, and I like more fruity scents, it smells perfumed.
3. Mane N Tail Shampoo- This is an old golden staple that I have used on my hair since I was in high school. Although this product is not sulfate free, it has sealers in it that prevent drying. This is an old time shampoo and it performs as such. If you are transitioning to natural, this is the perfect product for your hair. This product is well received on your relaxed as well as natural hair. The only negative I can state is that it’s not sulfate free. The cost for this shampoo is $3-5 depending on the bottle size. The best thing is you can find this shampoo everywhere from local beauty supply, to big box stores, and if you look it’s probably on the shelf at the corner store 😉.
4. Ogx coconut milk Shampoo- This is what I would call a mild protein enriched shampoo. It’s creamy and moisturizing. This shampoo does have sulfates in it, but it’s not drying. This product has egg whites, coconut oil, and coconut milk, so it’s moisturizing and adding protein to your tresses. The consistency is kind of thick and it smells great. Depending on what I’ve used in my hair, I sometimes need a shampoo that’s a little stronger than the sulfate free, and this is it. I keep my hair heavily oil, and sometimes to heavily oiled, but this shampoo works great when I need a little more something to cut the grease. The biggest negatives are, the bottle is shaped weird and it doesn’t fit in my shampoo caddy and the cost varies greatly from store to store anywhere from $6-12 and to me that’s too much of a wide range.
Now just in case you’ve already stocked up on some less then desirable shampoos no need to fret. Try mixing your so-so shampoo with a great conditioner at a 50/50 ratio. This will help Moisturize your hair, and if you have a half bad conditioner, use it as a pre-poo.
What are some of your favorite shampoos? Or maybe you have some home fixes that work for you? Please comment below. I hope you found this post helpful and a hope my suggestions have your hair looking as beautiful as a Libertarian Girl! 😜
