I don’t know about you but I’m always trying to balance comfort and style on the weekends. Usually you have to sacrifice one or the other. But I think I nailed it this time! My black spaghetti strapped sheath dress is ultra comfortable. However, it might look a little weird throwing it on to run to the grocery store or to do errands. But when you throw it on with the ultimate comfort gear, a ” white tee” and some ballet flats, it screams ” casual glam”. This day was a little chilly, so I put my cropped denim jacket on top. To free up my hands while shopping, writing checks, or just to have somewhere to keep my keys & wallet, I grabbed this clutch sized fringe purse. Channeling my inner B-girl, I wore my gold hoops with my dookie rope chain.
This is the perfect Saturday style to run errands, or go shopping, but still be able to go meet a friend for lunch. The flats are good and comfy so you don’t have to worry about hurting dogs when you’re done!
Shopping Tip: The tip is, this look costed me nothing! I shopped my closet. The LBD is just a wardrobe staple that I have on deck, and now the I’ve learned how to dress it down its official a AP ( All purpose) LBD ( Little black dress). The denim Jack is the same one that I embellished ( here) . The ballet flats are from Asos in a wide width of course. The fringe bag is from a last year from Fashion To Figure.
Sometimes I see my coworkers push the limits of our dress code in ther desire to get cubicle cute. I’ve seen skirts and dresses too short, heels too high, and inappropriate tops. On one casual Friday, I’ve even seen a coworker wear sweatpants.
Or the equally as bad other end of the spectrum, when people just dress like a granny, in an effort to look conservative. Just bad! Although I am a grandmother, there’s no granny dressing here!
Here’s how I got cubicle cute. To add some flavor I went with these “everything” pink pants from Ashley Stewart. When I say everything, I mean they are every- thang! They wear like slacks, and are comfortable like leggings! The blush color is great for spring, yet they are warm enough to hold up to the Artic Blast tempeture of my office! Instead of a regular cami, I went with this white faux leather cut out cami from Lane Bryant. My classic black blazer from Lane Bryant, nude heels from Nine West, and white faux pearls from Walmart anchor the look.
This blazer is one on of my favorite items in my wardrobe right now. Its just the right touch to keep my jeans office appropriate on casual Friday, and it still looks great with slacks, or over a skirt or dress. Now keep it cubicle cute, but stay out of HR lol!
What’s good my good people? It’s been a minute since I’ve posted. It’s been 7 weeks, and in blog life that like 2 years lol. Allow my to reintroduce myself.
My name is Uhura. I am the founder of Mrsphatandnaptural, and I’m not a blogger. I’m a resource.
My hiatus started with me trying to find my way through mourning the loss of a good friend. I told myself I needed to take some time to deal with what I was feeling. The days rolled into weeks and here we are! During these weeks I had to reevaluate my direction and revisit my motivation for starting this platform.
Here’s my why: Originally the idea started out of my frustration in trying to find a dress for a friend’s wedding.I felt as if there were limited options for me. Most of the dresses weren’t flattering, and even fewer were fashionably up to date. Everything I found made me feel older, bigger, or out of fashion. I was so discouraged by the process that I ended up not going to the wedding. When I began my transition to natural hair, I struggled with finding the right products, routine, and regime to get my hair healthy and fit for public viewing. I knew I had to do something for other women struggling with these issues.
It is God’s will I have a blog. My objective is first and foremost to honor my purpose and spread the word of God’s Love. Second is combination showcase and information platform for my Sisters. This has been such a blessing to me, I have virtually and physically meet so many people whom have enriched my life. My prayer is that I have done the same for someone else. I hope you love the ride as much as I do. Thank you for being with me.
Well it’s here! The Fall season is upon us. You get to sport the boots, sweaters, and jackets we all love! Although I’ll definitely be pulling out some of last season’s wears,I always added a few pieces from the new trends to freshen up my wardrobe. This year I’m going with some of Pantone’s hottest colors to keep me up to date.
Every year Pantone Institute delivers its report with the names and code numbers of the hottest colors for each season. This Fall the colors were lead by the Blue Color Family. Here’s their official statement:
The desire for tranquility, strength, and optimism have inspired a Fall 2016 color palette that is led by the Blue family.
Other than blue jeans, I’m really not a fan of blue…however there are quite a few colors on the wheel I am loving! Now you know I’m not trying to break the bank, so most of these pieces are well under $100. Here are my five favorite colors of the Pantone Fall 2016 Colors :

Ok ladies this is it! Finally stylish clothes created for plus sized women by a plus sized women! Ashley Nell Tipton has done it again! The ready to wear plus sized godmother has unveiled her 2016 boutique collection for JC Penney and it’s hotter than ever! And guess what? She used real plus sized women of every shape, height, and size! Bravo to Miss Ashley! Take a peak below…oh yeah don’t be shocked she used some of our favorite real women! 😍
First off I have to say this dress is one of those pieces that gives instant confidence! Nothing makes you feel as good as a great Dress! I picked it up from Fashion To Figure last year &25 buy one get one free at TheCurvycon. I’m not really a dress girl so I don’t wear it often. I tend to wear more dresses in the summer so I pulled this one out this week.
From the time I put it on I realized something that never dawned on me before. Fit & Flare is my perfect silhouette. I’ve said it before, one of my body flaws that I dress to camouflage is my midsection. This shaped dress ( sometimes called a Skater) makes my flaws fabulous!
The dress shaped my body in just the right places. It hugged the top, and flared out at the waste, creating the affect of a well defined high waistline.
The dress is strapless so to make it office appropriate I threw on a denim Ballero that I thrifted a few months back. A statement necklace that I picked up for $5 at Walmart, and a silver clutch that I got at Ross for less, my summer staple fringe sandals, and some silver hoops complete this look.
Conclusion: Fit & Flare makes my flaws look fabulous!
Breaking All The Rules Yacht Party : Full FIGURED FASHION WEEK CURVES AT SEA ALL WHITE YACHT PARTY
Yes you heard it right! Hundreds of full figured beauties wearing all white dancing, singing and partying without a care! I must admit although I had a great time, and the food was excellent. I was doing a lot more watching than participating. I can’t help it I’m a people watcher. So, as I watched and admired how great everyone looked, I also realized that everyone was expressing their fashion their way! It was awesome!
Breaking rules and looking fabulous!
Rule #1 CURVY GIRLS SHOULD NOT WEAR WHITE
Rule # 2 CURVY GIRLS SHOULD WEAR LONG SHIRT – NO CROP TOPS
Rule # 3 CURVY GIRLS SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM LACE AND SHEER CLOTHING
Rule #4 CURVY GIRLS SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM FORM FITTING CLOTHING
Rule # 5 CURVY GIRLS SHOULD CAN NOT BE PAGENT QUEENS
I guess nobody told them about us!
Soooo just because they are my favorite looks of the night!
This is my favorite moment of the night! I got to meet my #haircrush Nakitende Esther!
As plus size fashionistas continue to lead the charge for market share and demand respect, we see more and more brands and designers trying to get a leg up on the competition. I myself am very excited to see all the developments taking place. These are just 3 of my recent favs! Ashley Nell Tipton with JC Penny for the Boutique+ collection!
This is the most epic collaboration. Not only does Ashley have exquisite taste and an eye for style, but she’s a fellow fat girl! So you know without a doubt no one has to tell her, we need a little stretch in our fabric. The tops and Tees seem to run a little large, so you should size down. Now when was the last time you heard that!?
She knows about that meat on the back of our legs that we don’t like to show! So she has bottoms and skirts midi length. How ever there are a few shorts in the collection.
I’m sure she is all too familiar with the mutant second stomach that hangs down below our hip line! So guess what she designs for that body.
I’m very much in love with both graphic tees, the blush pleated skirt, the cold shoulder tops, and the distressed knickers.
Now here is the best part, right now they are 40 % off! With price points this low ( 12.99- 35.99) I can pretty much get all of my favorite pieces.
Thanks to the lovely Kelly Augustine we have a video of the full runway show!!! It’s at the end of the post!!!!
I love that all the clothes are shown on real bodies! Curvy Style With Timothy Snell
The tag line says it all A-list Style for the everyday physique. He’s called the bodyguard of curvy fashion. I first heard Of him as Queen Lateefa’s stylist. He has styled some of thee most famous curvy body’s we know today.
On the show that airs on BET’s Centric channel Saturday at 10, he dresses one celeb client and one everyday woman. In both segments he gives tips for how he dresses certain body types. There has only been 2 episodes and already he’s touched on proper undergarments ( in my opinion the #1 plus size mistake), the importance of taking care of yourself as a mother and wife, and insecurities about issues we may or may not have.
We really need to support this show. It’s the first show where plus sized fashion is center stage!
Christian Siriano for Lane Bryant
This Runway show was a lot more formal. It was held outside at the United Nations in NYC! The setting was beautiful, and the clothes looked divine! It was very much a start studded “Fashion” event. Lots of celebrities and pretty people. Miss Danielle Brooks stole the show in this bright yellow number that flowed like she had wings!
The collection is very light and airy! Lots of bright colors, lots of patterns, all in all a very girly girl look! Now true to Lane Bryant the price points are on the high side ( 29.95-168). However there is a discount code 👇.
Buy 1 get 75% with code LOVELB
I’ll probably just wait for the price to go down. I’d rather wait to have something I really want, instead of buying something else just for the price.
So there you have it! 3 of my favorite “ Curves Are Trending “ stories happening in plus size fashion today! But before you go, click the link below and catch the #soworthit Ashley Nell Tipton collection for JC Penny!
So, this post started out as a list of some of my favorite places to shop. Then as I was literally writing out a draft of that post, I received two emails that changed my direction. One was from someone who wanted to know where I shop at, and the other was from someone who said they were going on vacation and wanted to know what I think they should take.
That got me reminiscing about the days, when I would go into the store, and look for my size and buy it. No matter if I liked it or not. It was my size ( size 20) and fit reasonably well (actually too big), so it came home with me. How pathetic was I?
I know this is the plight of so many plus size women! I hear it all the time. Especially young plus size women. It’s as if there’s no in between, there’s overly sexual ( a whole other post right here) and then there’s frumpy! Well later for all that!
Fast forward to today, ( size 22-24) I love shopping straight size trends and look for classic pieces to keep my wardrobe ever fresh!
Now, I can do outfit of the day posts all day long, and I still get the same question. Where did I get this or that? I want to make this as easy as possible. Below I’ve highlighted some of my favorite straight size 2016 Spring Trends, and listed the stores where you can pick them up.
Cold Shoulder: This is definitely a more feminine trend that looks great on plus sized women. The bare shoulders draws the eye up to your beauty.
Florals: You’ll see this one in small and large prints, appliques, and even combined with other trends. After all Spring Showers Bring May Flowers!
Ruffles: So, I’ve seen some articles describe this trend as “Spanish” however, be careful where you choose to display the ruffles they could add unwanted volume if the are sitting on the wrong curve!
Lace: Most recently, Beyoncé strutted a white lace number at the White House Easter Egg Roll. Yes just like that, all the lace pencil skirts went up! Lol. You see lace on skirts, dresses, shirts as the main fabric or as accents.
Stripes: Yeah, so that ” Big Girls Can’t Wear Stripes” not today! We are blurring the lines and rocking vertical, horizontal, and even diagonal stripes!
Romance: This one has the potential to be dangerous! It’s uber sexy and sometimes called “Daytime Lingerie”. I think you get the picture. Satin, sheers, laces, nets, but it can all be done in good taste. So let’s keep the raunchy out of romance ok.
Denim: This is one of those ever fresh categories. Like when was jeans ever not a trend?
Tulle: Yup, it’s still in! Yay! I love tulle skirts, you can dress them up with heels and a nice blouse, or down with Jean shirts. They go with sandals, sneakers,t-shirts and they fit great on everybody’s body. You can’t mess the look up!
Where I shop in store or online:
Fashion To Figure- mostly online but there are stores in Jersey. The clothes fit true to size and they always have sales.
Tip: Sign up for the email lists, I shop when they have discounts via email.
Burlington- In store, I have one close to my house and one close to my job. So, I’m always checking the racks.
Tip: If you like it, get it right then, because chances are it’ll be gone quick.
Eloquii- Only online. The clothes are a great quality for the price! These pieces last through washing and wearing and they are very fashion forward.
Tip: Same as above, I shop when they have deals and coupons via email.
Asos Curve- Online Only, again the clothes are great quality the sizes are true to size.
Tip: Make sure you by US sizes they not UK sizes. I know a few people that made this mistake.
Torrid- Both instore and online. They absolutely have the best fitting jeans! They always have sales and they have the loyalty rewards for being an insider.
Tip: Use your insider points, and buy ” staple” pieces, because the prices are not cheap.
Ashley Stewart- For years this was the only place I shopped but as of late ehh! It’s still a great resource, but things have changed.
Rebdolls- Online only, I love them but you have to get the extended sizes fast because they sell out quickly! A lot of these pieces are a little young for me. But they are great for the plus sized millennial woman.
Lane Bryant- In store just because it’s close to my house. Sometimes the prices take me down though! I try not to shop in a rush, but if there is ever a last minute need, I go there.
Full Beauty.com- Online only,You can usually find any and everything on this site! That’s their whole niche. Wide shoes, classic trends and the new in thing ” Swimsuits For All”; you name it they have it!
Do you have a favorite store? Drop it in the comments below!
Sometimes winter fashion is all about the outerwear or footwear, but this post is about an oldie but goody…the sweater dress! The sweater dress has 50 Shades of style! I’m not a dress wearer but this dress is as comfortable as my favorite jeans, as cozy as a pair of sweats, and cute to boot!
It’s a dress that is comfy enough that I wore it to drive on a 2.5 hour car ride, and when I got there I looked as good as I did when I first put it on. The sweater dress is forgiving to your curves, and did I say it comfortable? Oh yeah I did!
Next to comfort, the variety of style options is the best thing! You can take it all the way up with some pumps, or way down with a ballet flat. If you can make it work, they even look great with a fresh pair of Keds. My favorite way to rock this style is with a high knee boot, and an obi belt placed at empire waist height. By adding the belt it draws the eye up away from my belly! The sweater dress, knee boot look is a classic that can be worn by most body shapes.
As a more curvy girl, I love the way the sweater dress hugs my curves. You can wear them at thigh length or to the floor! They still look great!
Between the snow, the cold, and the ice, the Northeastern Winter can just make you fashion sick! So, make sure you have a cozy, comfy, and cute sweater dress in your fashion first aid kit! What do you have in your Winter Fashion First Aid Kit? What are your winter go to pieces and how do you rock them.
My natural hair is smoothed up into a protective style updo with Cantu Leave in, separated into 3 sections the front section pinned to a pompadour anf the middle and side pulled forward and pinned to the gawds!
