Baby baby, it’s getting cold outside! I’m keeping warm in this Jessica London Faux Fur. It’s comfy and warm, and for me it’s the perfect length to cover everything and keep me nice and toasty under here. I wanted to channel my inner Parisian Phatty so I went with my black Fashion to Figure jeans ( my favorite this season) and a ruffle top from my closet. The fur puff purse is from Rainbow Shops, and my Nude pumps are Nine West, they have wide width which makes them a winner for me! To top it off I tied a red silk scarf in a bow on top 🙂 My Natural Hair doesn’t like the cold at all so, I try to keep her covered if I’m outside for any length of time.
Now since leopard is one of my favorite neutrals I’ve had this coat for a while. However I got you! Below I have link a few sites where I’ve found similar coats and of course they are all very reasonably priced between $100- $ 150.00.
I guess the grandmother of this look is Ms Chanel, from Fox’s Scream Queens! I saw a #waybackwednesday post of Project Runway’s Tasha Henderson on her brand page Vonray Design. She captioned it ” When Von of Vonray made an outfit inspired by Scream Queens Chanel.
I don’t watch Scream Queens on a regular. I’ve caught it a few times. However I am a fan of Project Runway. That’s how I was introduced to Tasha and her Vonray Designs. Even though Tasha is no longer on Project Runway I’m still a fan of hers. Of course I’m a supporter because she is plus sized and has natural hair! She represents the girl that’s never seen on TV, so I was super excited to see her on the show. As usual, I follow her on all her social media platforms. That’s how I saw this post from her look she did last year.
Instantly, when I saw this look I thought about my Simply Be fuzzy sweater, and this tube skirt from Rainbow shop. I paired it with a white button down, my black wedge booties from Ashlely Stewart, and a clutch I got from a family Secret Santa a few Christmases ago. The shades and earrings are both from Burlinton on one of my “shop for lunch” trips to the store by my job (what a temptation). Shopping is my coping strategy. So those “shop for lunch” trips are a great way to release the pressure of a busy morning.
Tasha’s hair is pulled up into a high bun. Which looks very cute, but I’m rocking my Mofaux. My Mofaux is my protective style of choice. Sides braided and two strand twits on top. I just rolled and pinned the twists up high to add some height. I went with my favorite Red lippie from Chanel.
All of these items were already in my closet. That’s the true basis of this style, it’s a trendy look made of modern classics. The looped texture of the sweater makes it look more stylish than a regular sweater, it is just a sweater, but just a really cute one! Has a TV show ever inspired a look of yours? If so drop a comment and let’s talk about it! Hope to hear from you soon! Until next time be blessed!
Well it’s here! The Fall season is upon us. You get to sport the boots, sweaters, and jackets we all love! Although I’ll definitely be pulling out some of last season’s wears,I always added a few pieces from the new trends to freshen up my wardrobe. Is it me or does it seem like the shoe industry has not caught wind of the whole #plusisequal #celebratemysize , #hereiam movement?
One of of the most frustrating parts of my shopping experience is shoe shopping! Don’t get it twisted I absolutely love shoes, but as my body has gotten wider…so has my foot. On top of which I have a short foot. I’ve just about given up on finding my size shoe. However I can’t give up wearing cute shoes.
I can’t tell you how many pairs I’ve shoes I’ve purchased worn once or twice, and given away! At times I’ve even purchased shoes a size and a half bigger. Yeah what woman wants to buy bigger shoes? It’s a little easier in the spring and summer because sandals are more forgiving. But, through that old scientific method …trial and error, I found a few go to Fall styles that always pay off!
I generally look for neutral colors.
I choose trendy classics that move easily from business to casual.
I try on both shoes not just one.
The Smoking Slipper
This one is from Chinese Laundry, I tend to buy black shoes for the obvious reason, they go with most of my wardrobe. The design of the Smoking Slipper gives the loafer look with out being as restrictive ( I also have a high instep…no loafers for me). The shoe trends are back to pointed toes so this one fits the current style. I purchased these a 1/2 size bigger ( just to be sure) at Burlinton for $19.00. They retail for around $45.00, Frugal Frogirl in effect!
The Ballet Flat
In case you haven’t guessed these are my favorite Fall Flats! The design of the ballet flat is perfect for my wide foot. The round cut makes them fit like a glove! The picture doesn’t show it, but they are also patent leather which is so on trend this year! I picked these up at Ross For Less at a whopping $7.99, yup less than 8 bucks! Because they were a ballet flat I knew I could get my true size! Love love love!
The Pointed Flat
Yes leopard is a neutral! He he he…it is in my book. I just love the classic silhouette of this shoe. These are usually cut right above the toe which is right below the thickest part of my foot. As long as the front isn’t too narrow these are always a win! I got these on one of my lunchtime shopping trips to Burlington back in July. I scored them for $ 9.99. They were marked down from $24.99. Got that off season discount!
I know I could always go the more expensive route of custom made shoes. But as you can see I didn’t pay much for these shoes. Or I could pay to get them stretched but that’s also more expensive.
Sticking to these shapes allows me to stop throwing money out the window buying shoes only to give them away after 1 or 2 wears. Or worst yet taking up valuable closet space by keeping items that I can’t use! Or the worst, the ugly granny shoes…I’m too young for that!
Do you struggle finding shoes that fit the three main points, comfort, style, price? If so I’d love to hear from you! Hope this information helps! If so let me know!
Ok ladies this is it! Finally stylish clothes created for plus sized women by a plus sized women! Ashley Nell Tipton has done it again! The ready to wear plus sized godmother has unveiled her 2016 boutique collection for JC Penney and it’s hotter than ever! And guess what? She used real plus sized women of every shape, height, and size! Bravo to Miss Ashley! Take a peak below…oh yeah don’t be shocked she used some of our favorite real women! 😍
I guess I witness the evolution of denim. Growing up, my grandma called them dungarees, and you only wore them to do yard work or play outside. They were seen as articles you wore to save your ” good clothes”. Then came the era of “designer Jeans” which most of today’s denim would be. Gloria Vanderbilt, Sasson, Jordache and Sergio Valentini are some that I remember being most coveted by the women around me.
Now Fast forward to present day style. Denim garners enough respect to have an entire runway show produced and aired for TV, i.e the namesake of this post which aired on BET last Friday. (Sidebar : Did you see it? I DVR’d it but haven’t watched it yet). Now it’s not only cool to rock denim, its uncool if you don’t rock the right style of denim.
We wouldn’t want you to be uncool right? So here are some of my favorite Plus Sized Bloggers showing you ” How To Rock Denim ”
Patches & Shadows
Ripped & Reworked
As a plus sized woman it’s not always easy to find denim that looks good on me and is stylish. I look for classic cuts like skinnies. I do wear flares but at 5’2″ wearing a sized 22 sometimes it’s hard to find my length. My favs right now are actually a black pair from Fashion To Figure. Torrid and Lane Bryant also has great jeans for plus sized ( I mean over a size 18) women.
We’d loved to hear how you rock denim! For more styles follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Now mixed prints has been a trend for the past few years. I have to admit I haven’t gotten the hang of it. I love the concept. And it looks great…but it’s not easy! I always read the tips when ever I see an article or post, because I’ve been wanting to try it for a long time, but every time I try it on I feel mixed up. Lol I guess that’s the point.
Some say stick to one color scheme, or just stay with small prints, but I kinda think that defeats the purpose. I say if you’re going to do it, go bold! Why do it at all if you are only going to do it a little?
I won’t even begin to talk about what patterns plus size women should and shouldn’t wear! That would take this post on a whole other rant. So for now, we are mixing print right?
Any who, When I found this mixed print maxi skirt in Burlington, ( for $12.99) I knew this was the perfect piece to get mixed up in! The skirt itself is made in a bold mixed print style, so there was no way to do this a little. I paired it with a sleeveless top that I Thrifted ( cost no more than $5) a few years back. It finally felt like the perfect mix to me. I added a mixed denim clutch that I picked up at Ross For Less for $6, as far as jewelry I wore black and white jewlery that I’ve had for a while.
The whole idea of mixed print is about defying fashion rules, and expressing a certain fashion freedom. So I say the only fashion rule you should stick to is, do what make you feel beautiful!
How do you feel about mixed print? Don’t be scared or better yet, do it afraid. Be free, be fashion free!
Please let me introduce “Sydney” from the Rachel Roy plus size collection. She also comes in black and the size 3x comfortably fits my size 22/24 body. B.T. Dubs this is one of those dresses that you hate to take off at the end of the night because you feel so cute 🙂 . Shout out to “Becky with the good hair”, because she makes some good clothes! I chose pink because it’s my favorite color. Besides that, the feel of this dress makes you feel soo pretty! It’s not at all a girly, or sexy dress, but it has a comfortable and worry free beauty. I love the pockets! And the low hem on the back gave me added comfort, because I have on of those shapes the make the back of the skirt rise up. ( I’ve always hated that)
I wore this dress to my families annual cookout which was a 2.5 hour ride to upstate NewYork. The fabric was so well made, that even after sitting on a bus for over 2 hours, I didn’t have a wrinkle in sight. That’s a good garment! This was another piece I picked up at The Curvy Con. I snagged it for right around $25.00. I love the way it feels. I pair this dress with my favorite summer sandals from JCpenny, and matched some colored and silver jewelry for the perfect cookout look! Now let’s get into this dress.
Weird Shape: It doesn’t add much to my shape. At first I belted it. It looked better with a belt. Then I thought about how uncomfortable that might be after eating all that great family food. So I decided to just let it flow!
Color: It is my favorite color ✔️, what girl can pass on feeling pretty in pink?
Material: It’s very well made ✔️ I know when a size 3x fits me this good, that’s a hot piece!
Versitle: It can be casually worn with sandals or you can dress it up with statement jewelry and heels ✔️
Price: At under $25.00 I went surfing her site for more peices ✔️.
This is is my first Rachel Roy pieces, but I will be getting more! Do you own any Rachel Roy plus sized collection? If so I’d love to here what you have and how you feel in it. Drop me a line in the comments. Or holla at me on Facebook, Twitter, and instagram.
First off I have to say this dress is one of those pieces that gives instant confidence! Nothing makes you feel as good as a great Dress! I picked it up from Fashion To Figure last year &25 buy one get one free at TheCurvycon. I’m not really a dress girl so I don’t wear it often. I tend to wear more dresses in the summer so I pulled this one out this week.
From the time I put it on I realized something that never dawned on me before. Fit & Flare is my perfect silhouette. I’ve said it before, one of my body flaws that I dress to camouflage is my midsection. This shaped dress ( sometimes called a Skater) makes my flaws fabulous!
The dress shaped my body in just the right places. It hugged the top, and flared out at the waste, creating the affect of a well defined high waistline.
The dress is strapless so to make it office appropriate I threw on a denim Ballero that I thrifted a few months back. A statement necklace that I picked up for $5 at Walmart, and a silver clutch that I got at Ross for less, my summer staple fringe sandals, and some silver hoops complete this look.
Conclusion: Fit & Flare makes my flaws look fabulous!
If you don’t know, shopping for stylish plus sized clothes is no easy feat. Getting great quality without spending an arm and a leg is my goal. I’d rather pay for good quality than get cheap stuff that’s s bad quality. But when I can get both! All is well with my world!
Well I guess I’m kind of putting the cart before the horse here. I haven’t done a review of my awesome experience at Thecurvycon. Yet I’ll be sharing some of my “next nothing” frugal fashion finds, thanks to discounts I received from thecurvycon. I scored quite a few goodies on the shopping floor. This cross-over tank top was free, yes free from Fashion to Figure for buying a pair of black jeans.
Fashion to Figure is one of the stores that returned from last year. They are one of my favorite stores. I was more than happy to go raking through those racks, especially for a buy 1 get 1 free! The top is a size 3x and it fits very comfortably. I usually don’t like the cross-over style because it tends to expose my lower belly and that’s no Bueno! But this one hits at just the right length. It’s just my kinda of boarder line casual, but I can dress it up type of style! I’m picturing it with some knickers too. This time I rocked it with a tube skirt and some fringe sandals, with a gold chain jewelry set.
The skirt and the sandals are from JCPenny. Ashlely Nell Tipton ( one of the headliners) has a partnership with JCPenny and they had some stations set up to decorate complementary tees they gave out, ( there goes that cart again). On the tables were coupons to get $20 off a $20 purchase. Yeah that sounds like free! I logged in on the Fourth Of July just to see if I could get some additional savings! Ding ding ding! What a score! The skirt was originally $60 marked down to $40 and 80% off clearance for the Fourth of July. After my Curvycon discount it was free! I got a size 3x and it fits great. It’s a tube skirt but it’s not clingy, which fits my shape well. I was a little weary of the stripes but once I tried it on I was sold.
The sandals were originally $50 and I ended up paying $15.99! They didn’t have wide with so I ordered a size 9 just to be safe! I wear an 8 wide when I can find it. Otherwise I get a 9 for the width. My total savings from JCPenny was a whopping $110.00! My total cost for this look was $15.99! I know the quality of these items is good and they’ll last me a few season.
Now the thing with frugal shopping is sometimes you can’t duplicate it. I did my best to find links to comparable items in style and price.
